MEDITERRANEAN TASTES AND GULF VIEWS

After a long day of meetings and calls, FACT’s Anzish and Chirine receive some culinary pampering at the Pearl Social.

We’re always on the lookout for the perfect open-air eateries as winter rolls around, and our team places the Pearl Social high up on that list. Nestled in the grand grounds of Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha, the newly reopened Mediterranean restaurant and lounge brings you a classy, elegant and tasteful dining experience.

This stunning restaurant provides the luxury of a private members’ club with their modern art deco interior, prompt service and offers picturesque moments of the glittering Persian Gulf in the background of its floor to ceiling windows – making this dining experience memorable. The restaurant’s menu offers a selection of fresh seafood, grilled meats, and beautiful small plates from the countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea – Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Tunisia, and more. It’s contemporary and innovative menu can be enjoyed within the walls of this elegant establishment or from the beautiful terrace.

And don’t worry about getting too cold on those rare chilly nights in Doha, the terrace is abundant with high-standing heaters, which also double as the perfect mood lighting. We begin our evening on the terrace with some drinks before making our way inside for the main meal. We sip to the flavours of the Star Mojito, a tantalising concoction of mixed berries, starfruits, and ginger ale. As we make our way indoors, we’re greeted with warm house-made bread and an array of delectable spreads.

For the cold appetisers we highly recommend the Goat Cheese Fig Cranberry Salad, it’s beauty lies in the simplicity of its ingredients and is the perfect start to any meal; light and crisp, with the perfect tang of the fig chutney and warmth of the goat cheese. If you prefer a warmer dish to start your night then the Baked Spanakopita will fulfil your desires with its crisp pastry, stuffed with warm spinach and feta cheese. This is our definition of comfort food! Speaking of comfort food, our mains are the perfect companion for any winter night in Doha, or otherwise. The Tunisian Lamb Couscous is a hearty meal – full of flavour, tender meat and set against a lightly spiced couscous.

Then comes the Lamb Shank Mediterranean Style, this tender, fall off the bone lamb shank is braised and slow-cooked in a rich gravy; hitting our carnivore sweet-spot, every time. And we’re saving the best for last with the Greek Orzo Pasta with Grilled Tiger Prawns. The orzo pasta is infused with a rich seafood broth and tomato sauce, creating a leisurely and creamy hug on a plate. We are left content and full of warm flavours. Then arrives our favourite part – the dessert! Although our hearts and stomachs are satisfied, we can’t resist the tempting treats that arrive. The Mixed Berry Pannacotta, although denser than most, offers a burst of fruity flavours, a tantalising ice cream, and fresh berries; creating the prettiest and tastiest panna cotta in the city.

Then arrives the most sinful and decadent Chocolate Soufflé with Duo Raspberry and Vanilla Ice Cream. The soufflé is rich, warm and oozes with chocolate syrup. We’re not joking when we say we licked the spoons clean. And now for the most instagrammable – because if you didn’t post it on Instagram, did you even really go? – dessert of the evening. The Mille-feuille With Red Berries Compote and Vanilla Chocolate Sauce. This creamy, flaky French dessert can be translated as a thousand leaves of thin layers of pastry, the literal cherry on top of the evening. The flaky pastry is complemented with the softness of its filling, and is enough to share for two.

We would come here for the dessert alone! We end this culinary escapade through the Mediterranean back on the scenic terrace as we let the night pass by while we sip our tea and coffee. And we’d like to give a special shout out to our host of the night, Llorendaisy – goes by Daisy – for making sure to make this night perfect and memorable. We’ll be sure to sit in her corner when we visit again. ✤
