PANORAMIC DINING

THREE SIXTY AT THE TORCH IS A MUST-SEE EXPERIENCE FOR ANYONE LIVING IN OR VISITING DOHA. WITH SWEEPING VIEWS FOR MILES, THAT SPAN ALL THE WAY TO WEST BAY ON A CLEAR DAY, THE ROTATING RESTAURANT’S VIEW IS NOT TO BE MISSED – WITH IT ONLY GETTING MORE IMPRESSIVE AT NIGHT SEEING THE CITY LIT UP. FACT’S JENNY GUTTRIDGE VISITS THE RESTAURANT FOR A ONE-OF-A-KIND EXPERIENCE…

It takes an hour and a half for Three Sixty at The Torch to make one full rotation. You can spend this time taking in many of Doha’s popular hotspots, including the Khalifa Stadium, Aspire Park and the 2022 building. It was my first experience of The Torch and it did not disappoint. After reaching the 47th floor, I met Elmira, my very kind server. I was given their signature welcome drink of lemon and mint cooler (which was so good I ended up having three!). I immediately felt at ease, Elmira was more than happy to answer any questions about the menu which was both refreshing and impressive to have a server that knew the dishes so well.

The restaurant itself has a wonderful aesthetic. Most of the food is served on black slates, feeling modern and elegant but still relaxed, where the colours of the dish truly stand out, and wow, how colourful they are! The beetroot yoghurt salad was an absolute feast for the eyes, as well as delicious to taste. The tanginess of the yoghurt matched beautifully with the sweetness of the beetroot and emphasised the main attraction of Three Sixty – where colour, texture and presentation are key. I spoke with Chef Sathik about the inspiration behind the new menu, he said texture was their main focus – to give their patrons a full experience of ingredients and flavours. All the ingredients are sourced locally, with the chefs going to the markets every day to procure the finest quality ingredients for their dishes. Everything, even down to the olive tapenade served with the bread, is homemade. The tomatoes and herbs in the prawn Provençale were so fresh that it felt like each bite transported you to the Mediterranean.

The speciality dish for texture has to be the trio of chicken, with chicken cooked three different ways; deep fried, grilled and in a roulade with a rich mushroom stuffing. It was an explosion of flavour and textures as well as being fun to eat! Comparing the smokiness of the grill, to the sweet and crispy coating of deep fried, to the rich earthy mushroom chicken roulade was entertaining and a great talking point during the meal. The addition of a nut and black olive crumb to the dish created an extra layer of crunch to each mouth-watering bite.

Another must try when you come here is the Wagyu ribeye steak with forest chanterelle mushrooms, it’s perfectly cooked and the combination of fondant potato and asparagus gives even the best steakhouses in Doha a run for their money. I also would be amiss not to mention the truffle mashed potato which was smooth and creamy and the perfect addition as a side to the steak.

Then came the desserts. The raspberry parfait was another colourfully presented plate, with the pink dome made out of freeze-dried raspberry puree playing into the texture story that the Chef has created. Accompanied with a raspberry sorbet, it created a refreshing edge to the taste and balanced the sweetness of the parfait perfectly.

However, I surprised myself at how much I enjoyed their deconstructed tiramisu! I’m normally not a tiramisu fan, but the lightness of the cream, softness of the coffee, the crunch of the cookie crumb on top combined with smooth sponge layers was phenomenal. Make sure to leave room for dessert!

It is hard to go wrong when you come to Three Sixty. The views are sublime, the menu is a flavour-packed adventure and the staff are attentive and friendly.
